About 100 million tons of plastic are produced each year and much of it is used to make one-use, disposable items.
Because plastic doesn't biodegrade these items, though only used for moments can last for decades, centuries, possibly forever. We are creating ever lasting rubbish in unsustainable amounts. Not suprisingly plastic litter in increasing exponentially and is now polluting the environment and maiming, even killing the animals who come in contact with it.
And its not just rubbish that is the problem. Many of the chemicals used in plastic are toxic and have been shown to leach out of the product. Other release extremely potent carcinogens when burnt. Tiny particles of plastic called micro plastics are no entering the food chain.
