What squirrels should be eating … and what they are eating. Thanks to Harry Shuldman for this great picture …..
In his own words… “squirrel in Wash. Sq. Park forcing a wadded up plastic bag down its throat. I tried to shoo him away to stop him from eating the bag, but he was determined to finish it. This is why you need to throw your trash in the trash!”
Of course, as we would say, boycott the filthy stuff.
Every year plastic is implicated in the death and crippling of animals worldwide
Check out the Flickr Plastic Is Rubbish photo pool.. for some really fantastic pictures of plastic polltuion.

They are not eating the plastic bags
They are using it for nesting.
I have seen one of my local squirrels doing this recently.
They break bits off of the bag and roll them into their mouths then take this to their nesting site.
Does that question relate to a) where you are based or b) where the photo was taken? I believe the photo was taken in North America and looks to be of the “Sciurus carolinensis, common name eastern gray squirrel or grey squirrel depending on region, is a tree squirrel in the genus Sciurus. It is native to eastern North America, but has since been introduced to European regions.” Hope that answers your question.
is this a native squirrel or a non-native invasive species?
Great project - will feature it more fully when I get some quality internet time. In a ranky café with a sticky key board and money running out.
Inspiring change and seeking your support
Effort for change!
In honor of Earth Day 2013 (4/22), it is my intention to collect 1 million signatures asking The White House to stop using single-use plastic water bottles.
Can you help by signing the petition yourself and asking others in your extensive circles to do the same?
Petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-using-plastic-water-bottles-at-the-white-house?utm_campaign=share_button_action_box&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition
Small changes, big impact.
In service & deeply grateful,
